Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History, located at I-5 exit 123 one mile south of Roseburg. There is admission fees and they are: adults $4.00, Seniors (55+) $3.00, And Students (4-college) $2.00. There is also a gift shop with a wide range of local artistry, food, souvenirs, and other gifts including educational toys.
Applegate Trail extends for one hundred miles through Douglas County. Traveling this historic trail will allow you to see Canyon Creek (near Canyonville), Dole Road (near the Myrtle Creek exit off I-5), Douglas County Courthouse (in downtown Roseburg), The Charles Applegate House (near Yoncalla). Oakland Historic District located 15 miles north of Roseburg. Oakland was a agricultural and shipping center. Visitors can experience historic buildings, homes, pioneer cemeteries, antiques, art and gifts shops. Self-guided walking tour brochures are available at City Hall.
Natural Attractions
Crater Lake National Park was once known as Mt. Mazama. It is now America's deepest lake. There are many activities that you can do in the park such as: Volcano boat cruises that begin on the 4th of July weekend and end on Labor Day. The tour begins at Cleetwood Cove lasting for 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is a trail to the Cove that is a 1.1 mile hike. Rates from 2006 were adult $24.50, adult with Wizard Island drop off $29.50, child (age 3-11) $15.00, child with Wizard Island drop off $18.00, Infant (under 3) no charge, Special school group tours $10.00 per person.
