The Oregon coast is home to many attractions. Attractions like the ocean, forests, shops, sea life, museums, and the great sand dunes. The largest coastal sand dunes in North America are along the Central Oregon coast. These unique dines provide a great and diverse hiking experience along the coast. These dunes are huge, some reaching over 280 feet high. These dunes are known as the Umpqua dunes. These dunes produce a great hike with a variety of untouched trees and many small lakes dotting the trails. The hike takes about 10 miles round trip which provides a good all day hike on the coast. You will not gain much elevation during the hike, just about 300 feet high. You can choose to backpack this in two days for a longer enjoyment of the trail without having to rush through. The hike has many easy flat trails and gets to be pretty difficult in some areas. You can hike these trails all year long. Wildlife can be seen especially water fowl of all types. This area is by no means a dessert type but it rains quite often here. The sea sand is very much different from the dessert atmosphere.
