An Obama painting depicting an Obama Messiah, complete with crown of thorns, outstretched arms, and appearance in front of the presidential seal is the truth as artist Michael D'Antuono saw it. He issued a press release alerting the public of his intent to display his work. It was promptly met with anger.
Not surprisingly, the idea of seeing an Obama painting with the all but covert notion of a direct Obama Messiah correlation was a bit more than the public could swallow. A follow up press release - just a few days later - canceled the unveiling of the Obama painting "The Truth." The artist cites public outrage for the cancellation of his Obama Messiah exhibition and apologizes if he insulted the religious beliefs of anyone.

Wondering if it was art or blasphemy, MSNBC quoted the Associated Press in 2007 when it reported on a life-sized statue of Barack Obama as Jesus Christ. Donning messianic robes, a neon halo, and having the characteristic hand gesture inferring a blessing, art student David Cordero created a stir with his Obama Messiah.

While the Obama painting may be skirting the borders of good taste, the 1987 photo of a crucifix submerged in the photographer's urine crossed that very line and then some. Andres Serrano soon became celebrated as the next Robert Mapplethorpe and Art Info reveals that he sold the crucifix photo for a staggering $162,000.

Obama is not the messiah. He believes in gay marriage and abortion both of which is against the WORD OF GOD!!!
As long as it is a private display not funded by the government, the artist is entitled to do what he wants with his artwork displays. I do think it would be wrong for the government to have any role in promoting this piece of artwork.

Thank you for this info I would not have otherwise known about at all. Well composed and left me gasping. No one knows when the Messiah will return. To my way of thinking it ain't President Obama.
Ashley makes a good point. What's disturbing is that there are so many delusional fools running around who actually look at Obama as some sort of messiah. One national (male) news anchor said he had "chills run down his leg" while watching Obama speak. Oh, and don't forget the folks who fainted in his presence on the campaign trail. Bad art (like The Truth) gives us one more reason to believe that a lot of Obama's "followers" are nut cases.
I agree Gayle. And I don't think that it's neccassarily the fact that having Obama portayed as a Messiah that's offensive, it's more the fact that someone would put him so high on the scale like that. Personally, I don't think Obama would care for it either. Plus, I think the artist may have a stalker trait going on.
Barak Obama is a man who is president. I don't think he's a reincarnated Jesus or other religious figure. Good grief!
