A family in Rancho Cucamonga, CA thought they were prepared this time to prevent what was happening to homeowners in their community. They had already been victimized once by thieves posing as interested home-buyers when they hosted their first Open House. "I quickly found out the hard way when I had a diamond necklace stolen out of my bathroom," said Allie McKinley.
On their second Open House they locked away all of their valuables, or so they thought. Who would have thought that today thieves would walk away with their new Chihuahua puppy, Chloe?
On February 18th, 2007 a couple who signed in under the name Paula G. Oliveras viewed the McKinley home along with their four small children. As the McKinley's Realtor finished the tour with the interested party, the mother and her oldest daughter asked Ms. McKinley to show them to the bathroom. This is when Allie McKinley thinks the husband made out with little Chloe.
"As they came out of the bathroom, they left in such a hurry as to leave the front door wide open. I swiftly went after them, calling out for my dog" expressed McKinley.
Chloe wasn't anywhere to be found. There were neighbors on the driveway next-door and children playing basketball in the street. Yet when McKinley asked if anyone saw her dog they all said no.
"If Chloe had gotten loose, they would have surely seen her. She was wearing a hot pink tank top t-shirt!" McKinley exclaimed.
What was equally distressing to McKinley was the way the Sheriff's department, Deputy Hughes, handled her complaint.
"[Hughes] took my statement then refused to do any type of investigation, claiming 'It was just a dog.'"
McKinley received very little consideration. She asked for the deputy's business card and neither received it nor a case number. As far as she knows there was no case number assigned at all. Her little Chloe was abducted and she couldn't even get the authorities to take the situation seriously.
"I would do anything to get my baby girl back" McKinley plead. "She is just under 3 lbs. . . . tan with a black muzzle, a black stripe down her back, and the cutest black eyebrows that almost make her [look] human."
