Let's face it. We all want a place to call home. A place we feel comfortable. A place we can be proud of. If you are looking for a home, you will need to consider Maine. Many people often forget about Maine as it is the most eastern state in the United States and you may be surprised how many people forget it exists. However, if you take the time to visit, you'll find that Maine is the best place to live.

One of the most important factors about living in Maine is that no matter what you are looking for, you will find it. Whether you want to live near the beach, in a city, or in the deep woods, Maine offers all of this and more. Real estate prices are now dropping and you'll find that many of the available homes are not only affordable, they are located just a short distance away from many area attractions.

Want to live near a ski resort? Choose Auburn to be near Lost Valley or Carrabassett Valley to be near Sugarloaf. Regardless of where you choose, however, you'll always be within driving distance to one of the many ski areas in Maine. You'll also find many activities available for you in the spring, summer, and fall. From hiking and mountain biking to sailing and fishing, you'll find Maine offers something for everyone.

If you're not a outdoor enthusiast and would prefer a more cultured lifestyle, don't worry. Maine is filled with culture and will afford you all you could ever want. There are several professional theatre companies in Maine and you'll find many community theatre groups putting on productions throughout the year, as well. From Kittery to Calais, you'll find these small community theatres are very active and many will also be recruiting. So whether you prefer Shakespeare or something more modern, you'll find Maine is rich with theatrics. You'll also find the area to be alive with history and can visit the Maine State Museum in Augusta or the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. Home to many forts from past centuries, you'll find yourself exploring the state with enthusiasm.

Washington County Maine was listed as the highest violent crime rate per capita in 2002 and although it's pretty lets not get carried away. It's surely a great place to visit. Don't forget to stop into the local methadone clinic for a fix while you're visiting one of the more populated areas as they couldn't have put the clinic amongst the 90 miles of woods you pass to arrive here.
