Ohio Proposes Specially Colored License Plates for Sexual Predators

On the surface, you would think that there couldn't possibly be any opposition to a proposal in Ohio that would make sexual predators obtain fluorescent green license plates, but I am now convinced that there are people that will argue any point, any point at all, just to argue.

First a little background on this proposal. Basically, sexual predators would be required to have these license plates on the vehicle they drive (important point) for a period of at least five years. At that point, they may petition the court to have the specially colored plate removed. This would give law enforcement officials another critical tool at their disposal to identify the most conspicuously bad offenders much more easily, and also give parents the piece of mind that their children are safer as currently these offenders only have to register with the sheriff, and are not allowed to live within 1000 feet of a school. This obviously is just not enough to make anxious parents feel safe for their children.

The only thing to me disappointing about this initiative, is the fact that this bi-partisan effort by Republican State Senator Kevin Coughlin, and his colleague, Democrat State Representative Michael Dubose is not being championed by the media as a terrific example of what government should be about, by the people the people, for the the people. I want to start my commentary by applauding both these fine elected officials for setting a terrific example that we can only hope all politicians should follow. Clearly these two gentlemen are doing the right thing without thinking of political gain at the same time. I would encourage anyone reading this to drop either or both of them your comments if you feel the same way I do, I'm sure they would appreciate hearing.
