American Idol's Top Five Give Great Performances from the Rat Pack

Giving New Style and Appeal to Wonderful Standards

Last night on American Idol Jamie Foxx stepped in as mentor for the week. The groups' assignment was a difficult one but Jamie didn't seem to have too much advice to add to anyone's performance, with the exception of Matt. He called him back in to offer a few suggestions that hopefully will have helped Matt with his version of My Funny Valentine.

Kris opened the show with The Way You Look Tonight and it was spectacular. He hit every note just right and connected with the audience with his soulful, crooning rendition of such a wonderful classic.

Allison found something she could wrap her rocker, raspy vocal skills around in Someone to Watch Over Me, but will it be enough to save her from tonight's elimination. She seems to be the tail end of the tough to hang with crowd of guys.

Danny selected Come Rain or Shine and it started out a little slow but Danny jazzed it up for the end and gave another top runner performance overall.

Adam was the show closer and for me it was just another strange over the top performance. It seems he has to have all the dramatic entrances and lighting effects to distract everyone from the fact that he is just offering up so so performances. He did Feeling Good and I know everyone likes the idols to hit the big notes and Adam can do it. It just seem that sometimes he is over the top with them.

So who will go home tonight? Probably Allison, but you never can be sure of these things. We can all catch the elimination show and a performance by Taylor Hicks tonight April 29, 2009.
