According to CBS4Denver.com this Sunday, March 11 the new Day Light Savings experiment will go into effect. Everyone will be turning their clock one hour forward before going to bed on Saturday night. The new Day Light Savings experiment will not end until November 4. This is one week later than usual. According to Dr. Thomas O'Brien of the Atomic Clock project in Boulder, Colorado the change is the result of a small paragraph in the 2005 Energy Policy Act passed by Congress for the purpose of seeking energy savings.

According to some estimates which have not been tested, the new Daylight Savings could save one percent or 100,000 barrels of oil per day during the effected period. According to Dr. O'Brien Congress has reserved the right to go back to the former schedule if this years test of the efficacy of the plan does not pan out. The additional one hour of daylight comes with a mix of reviews. Most people seem to like the additional hour of day light in the evening hours, but there are some technical issues which need to be addressed.

Microsoft is offering a download package on their website. The download can be accessed by clicking http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst. The support area of Microsoft has a series of questions regarding the type of operating system you are currently using and allows you to choose among the various options. For Windows XP Home Edition there is a need to download a Windows XP Service Pack. The instructions are simple and the Microsoft support page provides useful information for nearly all their devices from computers to hand held devices. There is a need after you install the updates to shut down the computer and restart it.
