Sacred Art located at 2040 W. Roscoe St. celebrated its one year anniversary with a Grand Reopening Friday, February 2, and continued on through the weekend.

The Grand Reopening was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m, February 2 with an in-store jewelry making session and a trunk show demo where the artist will bring along additional jewelry for sale.

Owner Sarah Chazin was inspired to open Sacred Art after a dear friend of hers, Cheryl Weaver died.

"That just gave me a kick in the pants that life is too short and you just gotta go for it and create your own," Chazin said, "I thought galleries were really scary to me because I don't have a background in art and I just kind of want to like something and simplify (for the art buyer) it." With Chazin's inspiration she opened her first business, Sacred Art February 2, 2006 with the idea of only exhibiting and selling art of Chicago land artists. As well as given art enthusiasts a comfortable place to buy art without the pressure of being at an art gallery.

When entering Sacred Art one will find the store to be a distinctive and unconventional place where all the art pieces are made by only Chicago artist. Each wall has a different color that allows the artwork to stand out. Chazin opted for nontraditional walls of green, teal, black, red and yellow, rather then white as she felt that white walls did not do justice to such beautiful art pieces. Art pieces range from paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry and many more items. With a wide range of art, the prices also vary from as low as $3 to $2,000.

Chazin's store works on consignment where the artist has their art work at the store, but the store does not pay the artist until the piece are sold, making there a "no risk" policy. There are currently 60 Artists featured, who range from art students to retired grandmothers.

"I want to touch everybody," said Chazin, "I hope with the variety of artists that I have in here I can reach the same variety of consumer."
