Long before the term was ever being used, I had a super-economical Global Positioning System in my car. It spoke in a language I understood and thanks to my personal GPS getting lost was NEVER an issue. The problem was -- my wife got tired of always hollering out direcitons while I was driving around lost in east St. Louis.

These days, a GPS (Global Positioning System) mounted in your car has quickly become the norm and already -- so soon after its debut -- it's about to become outdated. Get ready for the GPS watch...and the GPS cell phone. Two little doo-dads of modern technology that you may want to add to you're "most wanted" list.

Thanks to a digital GPS worn on the wrist, getting lost is about to become passé'. But the new wristwatch Global Positioning System won't just map out streets and avenues, it will also provide detailed logistics of parks and pathways.

According to SpaceToday.org (www.spacetoday.org), the latest addition to outdoor watches is the Protrek Satellite Navi that comes with built-in receiver that picks up signals from Global Positioning System satellites and shows your current location on the display. This makes this particular wristwatch just the thing for mountain climbers, anglers, and anyone else who challenges the great outdoors. The blend of advanced GPS capabilities with wristwatch ease of operation and portability is made possible by a number of new innovations, the most important of which may be what is referred to as "multi shield layer" (MSL) construction, which enables alternative stacking of circuits and shield layers, which save space - and crams more hi-tech circuitry into an increasingly smaller package.

Light-weight and it looks good too: the GPS wristwatch.

Takeaways
  • GPS technology keeps getting smaller and easier to use.
  • As GPS systems become more widespread, the price-per-unit continues to go down.
  • A GPS can take you places, or get you out of places that a simple map never could.
Did You Know?
Maps will never be completely outdated, but with a global positioning system the use of a map printed on paper continues to be more trouble than it's worth.

On the one hand I hate this, on the other, I do have a particularly lousy sense of direction... Thanks for letting me know of my options. :)
