After high school, I took a year off and moved to Orlando, Florida. I moved back home six months later (long story). Anyway, when I got back, I registered for 2 evening classes starting in January. I decided to go to school part-time and work full time. Who doesn't need money, right?! During the summer I met someone and we got married in November and our first child was born in June. That definitely changed my school plans.

After my daughter was born, I made money by offering childcare in my home. This left NO time for classes. It took me three years to go back to school. Partly because of life, partly because of money.

Now I have two children, ages 2 and 5, and I try to take one class per semester (usually online classes). Summer is prime time, as the childrens' grandma is nice enough to watch them a couple days a week so I can attend classes. I am just now finishing up my "freshman" year, and although I am moving very slowly, I am very determined.

Many online classes are available, and are of course VERY flexible. You do the work any time within the week(s) it is assigned. You submit your work and take tests online. All from the comfort of your home without having to find a sitter or pay for daycare (way too expensive!).

I really thrive on going to classes, as it is very stimulating for me. I know that I am moving slowly, but I will one day reach my goal of becoming, you guessed it, a teacher. Once my kids (and there may be one more yet!) are all in school, it will really free up my day so that I can finish up getting my degree. It is a milestone that I have looked forward to for as long as I can remember, and one day I will accomplish it.

It is never too late to go back to school. While money does affect many people's decision to go back or not, financial aid is generally very helpful. Many of my classes have been 100% aid for through federal grants. Also, people of ALL ages go to college, especially where I am at. Many of the students are moms with grown kids who are going back to further their education and get a degree.

Final word: If you are considering going back, but are doubtful, JUST DO IT! No one will ever say, I wish I hadn't gotten that degree!
