The San Diego School Board has rejected calls from a group of Christians to protect school children from the influence they might receive from marching in city's 33rd annual homosexual pride parade. The board rejected the calls from the 12 men and women, one of whom is a former homosexual, to bar a K-8 charter school from again marching its students in the gay parade under the school's banner in July's "San Diego LGBT Pride" parade. The action was reported today on the website, www.onenewsnow.com.

The parade is scheduled for July 21, 2007 and is supposed to be San Diego's largest civic event, with more than 200 floats and participants including local political leaders, businesses, and even some churches. The San Diego School Board rejected the call from the Christians, known as the "San Diego Twelve," and took the side of the school, choosing not to intervene in the matter and allowing the students to march in the gay parade.

James Hartline, one of the twelve and a former homosexual himself, in his blog at www.jameshartlinereport.blogspot.com, claimed in a blog on August 19, 2006, that the San Diego Gay Pride organization was in 2005 under investigation for employing numerous pedophiles "as volunteers and staff supervisors during its annual parade and festival. The scandal involved dangerous sex offenders working for San Diego Gay Pride who had been convicted of having sex with young male minors or young children."

Hartline refers to various web sources to make his claims.

He said that because of the problems involving the 2005 parade, most residents of San Diego did not think public schools would allow their children to participate in the 2006 parade. He said people who thought that would not be the case were wrong.

He called the fact that students marched in the 2006 parade under the banner of a school "one of the most appalling displays of gross disregard for the safety of young children." He mentioned the men and the women in the parade who were "nearly nude" and criticized the fact the children were brought into their midst.

Or Ann Coulter.

In my opinion, if a parade run by heterosexuals had those in charge who were pedophiles and had had sex with children, there would be a monumental outrage. If such a parade had strippers and pornography, people would not stand for it. It's not "politically correct," however to oppose anything of a homosexual nature.

Definitely. There's no need to take the whole school out of the parade because some particular parents may not be comfortable with it. I was in my (Toronto) Pride Parade this year on a float with the Peel Children's Aid Society, and there were several young children on the float with us. It was a unique and fun experience.

If you don't want your kid marching, opt out. I would have no problem letting my kids. Hopefully, it would teach them to be tolerant, accepting, and non-bigoted, ie, how to not be like James Hartline.
