A pro-family activist Tuesday criticized United States Senator and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for a Saturday speech that the activist said was pro homosexual marriage and also supported the adoption rights of gays. Reportedly the New York Democrat told members of the Human Rights Campaign that she will make sure "nothing stands in the way" of loving couples, "gay or straight," who want to adopt children. Senator Clinton reportedly also reaffirmed her support for allowing the civil unions of homosexual couples. She announced her support for granting the same benefits for homosexual partners of federal workers as those given to married couples. The former First Lady, however, has never publicly said she supports homosexual marriage.
The pro-family activist, Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truth, is a conservative activist who openly opposes homosexual marriage and other things advocated by Clinton during her speech. He criticized Senator Clinton for her stands. He said he was surprised by her comments Saturday.
LaBarbera said it is "astonishing" to watch the "evolution" of liberals. The pro-family activist said while Senator Clinton may not actually say she endorses homosexual marriage, endorsing the things she does is the same thing. He said not actually saying one supports homosexual marriage, but endorsing financial and adoption rights is "a sneaky game." He said politicians like Clinton and Senator Barack Obama, an Illinois Democrat who is also running for president, know they can't publicly support homosexual marriage because of repercussions, but they advocate every other right for homosexuals.
Senator Clinton said in her speech that she "wants a partnership with gays if elected president. I am proud to stand by your side." According to the website, www.freerepublic.com, however, Senator Clinton chose to not publicize her speech to a wide audience.
Senator Clinton, when asked why her speech had not been publicized ahead of time, reportedly said, "You'll have to ask my campaign staff."
