Celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th

Celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) tomorrow, the 8^th of March, 2007. An annual event which originated in 1908 as a march through New York City for better pay, shorter hours, and voting rights, IWD has grown into an inspiring worldwide celebration of women's achievements.

A great number of companies, organizations, governments, universities, and media groups are all showing their support on a global scale for IWD.

An complete list of the 422 events planned around the world is available on the website. One can also sort the events to view each country separately.

Sixty-seven events which range from broad commemorations in San Francisco, California to environmental celebrations in Austin, Texas to the sharing of personal war stories in Cranston, Rhode Island are currently planned for the United States.

Several events are available in multiple cities and even nationwide.

Women in Film and Video (WIFV) will present the 2nd Annual Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI). This event, which has chapters participating in Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, New Mexico, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., as well as, Alberta, both Calgary and Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, Denmark, Wellington, New Zealand, will honor the outstanding achievements of female filmmakers.

A "Bell Ringing Initiative," in which Iowa United Methodist Women ask all anywhere to ring bells "to speak out in support of education for women" and "to emphasize that violence against women is not OK."

This event will make the biggest impact should groups of supports meet locally to participate as a community. It is scheduled to take place between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
