NASA Fires Astronaut in Love Triangle Scandal

Astronaut Lisa Nowak was fired from NASA on Wednesday. The firing came a month after she was charged for attempting to kidnap a woman she allegedly considered a romantic rival for the affection of a space shuttle pilot.

According to NASA officials, Nowak's dismissal was not a reflection in the agency's belief in her guilt or innocence. "Because Nowak is a naval officer on assignment to NASA, rather than a NASA civil servant, she is not subject to administrative action by NASA,: officials said in a statement.

Lisa Nowak is accused of confronting the woman that she allegedly believed was a romantic rival at the Orlando airport. Allegedly, Lisa Nowak pepper sprayed the woman through a partially lowered car window. Police found a BB gun, new steel mallet, a knife and rubber tubing in Nowak's car.

Nowak, 43, has reportedly been married for 18 years and and is the mother of three children. Nowak is a Navy captain.

She drove approximate 900 from Texas to Florida to confront the woman she allegedly consider her romantic rival. Reportedly, she wore a diaper so that she could drive without stopping. She stopped at a hotel on the way and used a false name and wore a disguise.

When she reached her destination, she confronted Connie Shipman in a parking garage and sprayed her with pepper spray.

Although married, Nowak had reportedly developed romantic feelings for another astronaut, Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein. Oefelein, 41 piloted the space shuttle Discovery in December. Oefelein and Nowak trained together, but never flew a mission together. Nowak told police that her relationship with Oefelein was "more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship." according to an arrest affidavit, reported Fox News.

Lisa Nowak was arrested and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder with a Weapon, which is a Life Felony.

In her statement to Police Lisa Nowak stated that she only wanted scare Ms. Shipment, to talk to her.
