This Round of Make Me a Supermodel Will Clearly Go to the Boys

Everyone has their favorite cast member of any reality show, and Make Me A Supermodel is no different. But whether you agree with the judges that Jonathan and Jordan are clear favorites, or if you're a fan of the former Mennonite Salome or goofy Brandon, one thing seems certain: The men have a huge advantage this time around.

Last season, the supermodel hosts were judges. Niki Taylor and Tyson Bedford had totally different styles, but their critiques were always interesting and sometimes surprising. The decision this season, then, to have them act as mentors to the models was as great one, especially since Niki accused Tyson of favoring the men last season. This season, the female models were to be mentored by a female supermodel, and the male models by a male supermodel. The idea was a good one, especially since "Make Me A Supermodel" is one of the few reality shows that seems geared towards preparing people to do the actual job, rather than just making good television.

Given the high quality of the idea, then, the decision to replace Niki Taylor with Nicole Triunfio was a bit surprising. While it seemed obvious that Niki Taylor was a bit uncomfortable in such a public position (whereas Tyson Beckford clearly eats up the limelight when it's on him), replacing a proven supermodel with someone who is not very well-known seems strange.

Nicole Triunfio is a gorgeous Australian, whose rèsumè includes work for top designers like Gucci, Fendi, Christian Dior, and other top-name haute couture designers. However, she's a relatively young model, who may be most famous for winning the reality show "Search For A Supermodel" in her native Australia. Further, while Niki Taylor seemed a bit uncomfortable being on television, Nicole seems totally disinterested in the competition whatsoever, and almost never offers advice or criticism.

Standing in stark contrast on the men's side, Tyson Beckford is not only the most famous male model of all time, he is also a wealth of information and advice. He always seems to clearly be cheering for the boys, and he certainly has the background to give his advice the gravitas it needs.
