Many desired that California should be a place only for the white man and nobody else. We all know what California is like today, but what we don't know is the process it took to get here. White people in California simply thought that they were the superior group. We get the attitude of being prejudice when we think we are better than a person or group. There are four key reasons for people having a prejudice attitude: 1. a general feeling of superiority, 2. a feeling that the subordinate group is intrinsically different and alien, 3. a feeling of proprietary claim to certain areas of privilege and advantage, and 4. a fear and suspicion that the subordinate race harbors schemes on the dominant race. These are they key aspects that make up the prejudice people even today. I personally feel that the white man most struggled with the feeling that they are just better, I also believe that they were afraid of change. The people of California thought that they should have rights of land and property, and that they most certainly have seniority over all. They wanted the best jobs, houses, and positions of control. From the attitudes mentioned we develop the phrase "white supremacy", meaning that the white people were first in the classes of society.
