Friends are a commodity these days, and few of us are blessed enough to have friend we can share our everyday life experiences with. We all know that we need friendship to experience life to the fullest, but do we know how to be a great friend? Some people have many friends and others have one or two great friends that they share all their life experiences with. However many friends you have, you can never have to many, and you can never be a friend to too many! To gain friends, you need to be a friend first. Creating an atmosphere for friendships to develop takes time and commitment, but it can be done! There are several characteristics of a great friend. These include kindness, caring, fun, sympathetic, compassionate, and the list may go on and on. I will go over some of these important characteristics and how to incorporate them into your life and become a great friend yourself!
Kindness is a gift that some people over flow with. There are individuals who long to be kind and do good deeds for other people. It is generally very easy for these people to gain friends, as everyone loves a kind person. Kindness may be shown in many different ways, but simple ways include helping out neighbors, always saying hello and greeting people you come in contact with, and helping out those around you who are in need. You can find people in need with every turn of your head, and when trying to work kindness into your life, take these opportunities to show you are kind and help others out.
Being a caring person is very important in a friendship. Friends are people we rely on to care for us when we are going through struggles. We all need people to come beside us during our life's hardest times and take time out to listen and pray with and for us. To incorporate caring into your life look at the friends you have around you and when they are having a hard time offer up your support. A simple call, card or email may be just what they need to cheer up their day. Showing you care says you love them and when someone feels loved, they want to show love in return. By caring for others, you will gain friends you wouldn't have without caring.
