Paris Hilton, the vapid, haughty waif engulfing the American media in the explicit details of her petty world, (or is it the petty details of her explicit world?) may well be one of the greatest sociological wonders of our age. The Associated Press recently held a glorious yet doomed Paris Hilton news blackout. For one week the modern hub of world information refused to turn their attention or energy to the exploits of the reasonless celebrity.

Unfortunately, as many would expect, the AP news blackout generated a frenzy amongst the journalist communities of the world, many of whom rely on AP for story sources. The blackout itself was subject to media attention and newspaper space, as writers twisted themselves down a spiral, talking about not talking about talking about Paris Hilton. The reasons for this fantastic charade of journalism are simple and somewhat less then honorable. Paris Hilton, regardless of her general uselessness, sells newspapers and magazines.

One wonders what Andy Warhol, one of the major founders of the concept of modern celebrity status would say about the talentless social icon. We already know that in the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minuets, but maybe also in the future everyone will be famous for no reason. Circumventing all normal standards for idol worship, the boyish Miss Hilton has emerged as a favorite daughter of ravenous audiences world wide.

In a way, she has inserted herself into the array of normally singing and dancing scantily clad female pop stars who dominate their sexualized genre. But having swept quickly through the choices of artistic expression, Paris showed that she had talent for none. In the end, her small list of successful work includes a rather boring and even cold home pornography and a badly faked reality television show, the lowest of all theatrics.

I've always heard about how weird her porn is: she answers her cellphone in the middle of it, but I can't bring myself to watch it. I think I wanted to like her at first, but she is just the scum of the earth--with the racial slurs, cruel behavior to others, not to mention the way she markets herself is really appalling.
