After giving dozens upon dozens of cards to others over several years, you could be in the market for a greeting card that's unique yet easy to make. Many people, who don't consider themselves crafters, could think they can't make greeting cards - but think again! Whether you use a store-bought card, or make your own from cardstock, the floral potpourri cards are a breeze. If you've ever dumped a bag of potpourri into a basket, you'll notice that there are leaves, flowers, and other items that can be used on the cards. So, if you purchase a card that depicts flowers, or you choose to make the design yourself, the potpourri is perfect for the project.
Sort through the potpourri and choose small leaves, dry flowers, stems, and even grassy pieces. Put these together with pearl beads, sequins, tiny faux jewels and satin ribbons to make one-of-a-kind cards that are gorgeous yet oh-so-simple.
Using cardstock, you can stamp or draw a pattern, or just freehand the design by arranging the flowers and other items in an attractive pattern. If the card already depicts flowers, choose potpourri pieces that will cover the printed flowers, leaves and other pictures.
The potpourri you choose for this project is very important. Potpourris with gigantic pieces, of course, are not appropriate. Try to choose a potpourri that has some interesting - yet small - pieces. Or choose potpourris which have pieces that can be easily cut. Dried apple potpourri, for example, is easy to cut into smaller, flower-shaped pieces.
Ordinary glue is all you need to attach the various pieces to the cards. Bulkier pieces can be flattened somewhat by using books to weight the card. Spray a piece of foil with non-stick cooking spray, then place it over the floral design. Stack books on top and leave overnight to flatten the bulkier pieces.
To add glitz and glamour to the design, glue tiny pearl beads, sequin, or jewels in the center of some of the flowers. String gold or silver lame thread amongst the flowers, or tie tiny satin ribbons and place them appropriately on the design.
