Recycled or 'upcycled' jewelry is becoming more and more common every year, but there is nothing common about it. The uniqueness and creativity that goes into each piece of jewelry is amazing.

The majority of recycled jewelry is handmade and most, if not all, of the piece is created using objects and materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Due to the handmade process that goes into each piece you really need to search around for artisans and crafters that sell recycled jewelry. One of the best places on the internet that provides artisans a space to showcase their handmade artwork is Etsy.

If you are looking for original, fresh, edgy, hand made, one of a kind, and eco- friendly jewelry I encourage you to look to the shops on Etsy. Every store on Etsy is stocked and maintained by an individual storekeeper, adding up to huge variety under the same roof. Here is a selection of the best and most creative jewelry I have found on Etsy.

Gems of Time

You know that sterling silver silverware you have sitting in a drawer somewhere? Well, someone has found a unique way of getting your monies worth out of them. Anne, of Gems of Time, first began creating recycled silverware jewelry in 1993 with sterling silver spoon rings.

The pendants and earrings created from silverware handles look like they were originally meant to be sterling silver jewelry. Some of the pieces have been cut, set with gemstones, or hammered and every piece looks great. (See Photo 1)

Groovy Vinyl

Cuff Bracelets, beaded earrings, and groovy pendants created from a few vinyl records and a whole lot of creativity is what you will find in this store. Groovy Vinyl's recycled pieces were born from a Jim Croce record and the need to expand artistically.

The fun cuffs that are painted and adorned with tiger stripes or leopard spots remind me of the days when I used to croon and shake it to Gloria Estefan tunes with my cousin. (See Photo 2)

They have fantastic stuff for sure! I really admire Groovy Vinyl in particular. I myself make recycled jewelry and sell it in my etsy shop. enthral.etsy.com

I'm not much of a jewelry person, never have been but these sound really cool. I'll check them out. I have a daughter that's a jewelry fiend, maybe I can find something there for her, she's so into recycled and unique stuff.
