Almost everybody likes animals. Some like to look at them on television. Others like to go see them at the park or in nature, or at the zoo. Others still want to invite one or more of them into their home. To stay. The how's and why's of why we love animals is far too complicated of a subject to try to cover here. Suffice it to say, more of us than not, want to have a pet of one kind or another. But how do we pick the right one? The list of things to consider below should help anyone contemplating adding a pet to their household.

1 - Why do you want a pet? This is the very first thing you should ask yourself. Do you want something to keep you company, or to coo over in the evenings as you watch television? Do you love animals so much you just love the idea of them in your house? Are they just too cute to pass up? When asking yourself why you want a pet, it's best if you can try to imagine the animal in your house as it might actually exist. Some of them pee or poop on the floor. Some chew things. Others howl when you're not home. In short, animals are animals, not stuffed toys come to life. Before bringing home a stray or buying something impulsively at a store, consider whether you want the fantasy image of what we like to think of as owning a pet, or do you want the real live animal. Hair and all.
