This jar is a perfect gift for the canine lover in your life! Just make, fill with scrumptious pet treats (see recipe below) and give.Dog Bone Treat Jar
For this craft, you will need:
- A large glass canister jar with a clasping lid
- Acrylic paint, in any color
- Polymer clay in red, tan, and brown
- Clay roller
- Bone shaped cookie cutters
- Hot glue gun
- Acrylic finishing spray
- A bag of small alphabet beads
Start by rolling the clay between your palms to soften it. Using the clay roller, flatten the clay to a ¼" thickness. Next, using the cookie cutters, cut out bone shapes in each of the three colors. Lay the bones flat on a cookie sheet. Taking individual alphabet beads, spell out words like "good dog" and "woof" by pressing a bead into each of the bones (one word per bone).
Roll two small balls of each color of clay. On each, press down with your thumb just enough to cause a small indentation. Press a small bead into each ball until the word "treats" is spelled out.
Bake all clay figures according to manufacturer directions. Allow them to cool completely before using the hot glue gun to attach them to the glass jar. When the glue has dried, coat the entire project with acrylic finishing spray. Make your own dog treats, or buy pre made ones, and fill the jar.
Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
For this recipe, you will need:
- 1 ½ cups water
- ½ cup oil
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- ½ cup cornmeal
- ½ cup oats
Blend all of the wet ingredients together. Next, whisk the dry ingredients together in a separate bowl, and then mix with wet mixture to form a ball of dough. Roll out the dough and shape into bones to match your treat jar. Place the formed bones on a non-stick cookie tray or lightly greased pan. Bake for twenty minutes at 400 degrees. When finished, turn off oven and allow the biscuits to cool inside oven until crisp and hard. Then store in an airtight container.
TIP: You can make the treats as big or as small as needing, depending on the size of the dog they are going to. The bigger the dog, the bigger the biscuit should be.
