This hand designed jewelry box tells just what the occupation of "Mom" entails and makes a perfect Mother's Day gift. For this craft, you will need:
- An unfinished wood trinket box
- A glue stick, or any glue that will adhere and dry clear
- Shrink paper
- Black solvent ink
- White acrylic paint
- Cream colored cardstock
- Black ribbon
- Watermark ink
- Rubber script stamps
- Black embossing powder
- Heat embossing tool
- Acrylic finishing spray
- Fine grit sand paper
- Silver heart scrapbook charm
Start by diluting the acrylic paint with water and painting the entire box. Let the paint dry fully before continuing. Repeat with one more layer of paint. Once the paint has dried fully, sand in random areas to create an antiqued, "Shabby Chic" look.
On the shrink paper, stamp the following words with rubber stamps and solvent ink: Chauffer. Maid. Cook. Healer. Master of Ceremonies. Nurse. Peacemaker. Teacher. Goddess of Laundry. Therapist. Hairstylist. Friend. (Note: There are many, many more jobs that a mother does for her family. Be creative and fill up the whole page.) Shrink the paper according to manufacturer specifications.
Cut the cream colored cardstock to the size of the lid of the box. Cut the shrunken paper to the size of the cream colored cardstock, and attach to the cardstock using the glue stick. Attach the cardstock and shrink paper to the top of the wooden box.
On a separate piece of cardstock, print the words "A Mother Is" using watermark ink. Immediately, sprinkle with black embossing powder fully. Shake off excess powder, and heat set using the embossing tool. Allow the lettering to dry, and then cut out in a solid rectangle.
Thread the ribbon through the heart charm. Adhere the ribbon to the lid of the box, letting the ends wrap one half inch over to the underside of the lid. (Make sure the ribbon lays flat against the box lid.) Glue the cream colored word rectangle to the ribbon. Coat the entire project with acrylic finishing spray, and let dry.
