Schools nowadays just are not doing so well in educating our children. This is what a lot of parents seem to think. A school where all of the kids are required to abide by a code of behavior, similar to what parents normally expect such as courtesy, politeness, respect for each other and their parents, seem to make boarding school look like a good choice. Giving your children a good start in life, and a balanced education is very important to many parents. The better education that they get, the more doors it will open when it comes to future employment. Why don’t more parents take advantage of it? Before sending your child to boarding school you should consider the effect that it may have on your children.

Some boarding schools may have some very impressive academic standards, but how are their moral standards. Since children in boarding school live with their classmates 24 hrs a day, and they are often pressured to do things they would not normally do at home. Or they may be subject to bullies. Sometimes parents do not realize it until after their children have left boarding school. Usually by this time it is too late to correct matters. Do you realize that even the teachers can have an influence over your children?

Any school even boarding schools can have morally corrupt teachers who tend to abuse their position of authority. Quit a few can be cruel and harsh, while others even have exploited their students sexually. Most of the time these incidents are unreported. But there are teachers who train their children to become good productive members of society. In boarding schools students are under the constant control of their teachers. Since most of your child’s time is spent with the teacher they will most likely bend to the will of a teacher.

Takeaways
  • Boarding schools restrict the movement of children.
  • Do not be too quick to make a decision.
  • They could have a totally different personality.
Did You Know?
Even the teachers can have an influence over your children.

times a week, they have to let their head of house know where and with who and have 11pm curfews. They were slowly given more privileges as they earn the trust of the school and their parents, they screw up and no more privileges, just like at home. If the school finds out about any drugs/alcohol abuse they do kick them out, they kick out around 20 students a year and first time offenders get probation as long as the school feels they are sincere about never doing it again. The advantages of attending school with international students was also a great way to broaden the students mind, my son's roommate the last two years was the Taiwan's diplomat to Chile's son. I did not send my son and my daughter to boarding school to escape my job as a parent, I sent them for the great experience and higher academics. To let them grow up a little bit at a time before I send them to college and so they do not go from strict supervision to none at all. Your perception of boarding school is o

My son is graduating from boarding school tomorrow, he spent 4 years at the same school and loves it and has gotten a fabulous education. The first year I was 500 miles away, the 2nd year I was 40 miles away and the last 2 years I was 20 miles away. I did find the first 6 months very difficult, but when I knew he was happy I was ok with it. He is 10 times more mature and intelligent than the day students that also attend his school. I have 0 worries about sending him to college with a car and a bank account, the thrill of being away from Mommy and Daddy has been greatly diminished. I know he'll probably drink when he turns 21 but by then, he'll be able to do it responsibility. He could have gotten alcohol, drugs and driving violations while at boarding school, however this boarding school as fabulous programs with dynamic speakers to educate students about how stupid doing it really is at this time in their lives. Also at my son's school they are allowed to leave the school seve

If you do not have any personal experiences with sending a child away to boarding school, or attending one yourself, I suggest that you do extensive research in order to prove your point. The majority of boarding schools are not all like Curtis Sittenfield's book Prep, so please stop making it out to be that way.
