Sure, I love Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. But the Simpsons character that really does it for me is Disco Stu. That's right, Disco Stu. Here is why Disco Stu is the best character on The Simpsons.

Disco Stu may be living in the past, but that doesn't mean he's not the coolest cat ever to make an appearance on The Simpsons. Dressed in his white leisure suit, complete with rhinestones and massive platform shoes, he struts around Springfield like only he can.

"Disco Stu likes disco music," he says, referring to himself in the third person as usual. In fact, Disco Stu boasts some of the most memorable quotes on The Simpsons. When Marge's old flame throws her a bash reminiscent of the seventies, he hires a roomful of partygoers to join in the charade. But Disco Stu evidently didn't need to get paid: "Disco Stu is working pro bono," he says to no one in particular.

Disco Stu also boasts some memorable moments on The Simpsons. Like the time he put the moves on Marge at the ski lodge...until he discovered she had children. Or the time he snorted sugar through a rolled up dollar bill. "Disco Stu got hooked on the white stuff in the seventies," he says.

Disco Stu's appearance alone is worth a half hour of laughs. Those John Lennon sunglasses, platform shoes with dead goldfish in them, gold chains, and of course, that giant brown afro.

Disco Stu's first appearance on The Simpsons came in an episode where Homer tries to stop Marge from selling his old Rhinestone Night's Fashion Gun. "I need it to rhinestone up my old clothing!" Homer insists. Indeed, Marge finds Homer's old leather jacket that reads "Disco Stu" in rhinestone on the back. "I wanted to write 'Disco Stud'," says Homer, "but I ran out of space." Later, at the rummage sale, someone suggests to Disco Stu that he should buy the jacket. But Disco Stu cooly replies, "Disco Stu doesn't advertise."

Some believe Disco Stu was inspired by John Travolta. Others believe he is the reincarnation of the Fonz. In fact, in one episode, Disco Stu says: "Did you know that disco record sales were up 400% for the year ending 1976? If these trends continue...ayyyyy!"
