New York City band The Fab Faux are planning a performance on Tuesday and Wednesday sure to make waves for Beatles fans. In their shows at Webster Hall, the band has pledged to perform what they believe the songs on the final Beatles album might have been if the band had stayed together for one more record. The Fab Faux will be drawing on the early solo works that John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr produced soon after the break-up, playing each tune with new arrangements that capture the trademark Beatles sound. Many of the songs the band will play were in fact tried out by the Beatles as a group when the Fab Four were still together, but the band ended before the tracks were recorded. The songs then popped up on members' solo albums soon after the split.
The Fab Faux will take these songs, including recognizable hits like John Lennon's "Jealous Guy," and Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed," and re-imagine their arrangements so that they reflect a classic Beatles sound, rather than the distinctive production sounds that each member cultivated as a solo artist.
Guitarist Jimmy Vivino compares his band's approach to the Beatles to the approach a classical group might take towards a composer, saying that "we look at it totally, totally from the music side, the way a chamber orchestra does Mozart or Beethoven."
The band's attention to detail in capturing the essence of the Beatles sound even led to bassist Will Lee telephoning Ringo Starr to confirm how a particular drum sound on a recording was achieved.
