Fat deposits on the hips and thighs have become a major problem for American women. In a time where the female (and male, for that matter) waistline is ever expanding, we are now also seeing the vast expansion that the hips are capable of. While it may take some time to whittle away those extra pounds, why not dress for success right now? You don't have to wait another six months to lose twenty more pounds before you can feel good about the way you look again. Why not try some of the following wardrobe tips that will make you look and feel slimmer immediately?

Disguising heavy hips is one of the easiest ways to look instantly slimmer. Dressing inappropriately for your shape is one of the quickest ways to look even heavier. The first thing to do when you are selecting clothing is to make sure that you are purchasing pants with the right waistline. You'll need to get rid of anything that sits above the waist. This makes the waste appear wider and will also bring attention to any stomach "pouching" that you may have. You do not necessarily have to opt for the ultra low rise cuts, which can make even sitting in a chair an embarrassing event for anyone not wearing the right kind of underwear, but you willneed to ask a store associate to help you find something of a "hip hugging" nature.

Secondly, look for longer shirts that will fall just below your hip line. The hem should actually be touching the middle of your belt, not the top of it. Luckily, the tummy baring trend is in a recession, and shirts that cover the entire stomach are in style, so we are in luck. Wearing slightly longer shirts will lengthen your torso and give your figure some much needed balance.

Thirdly, consider wearing at least a two inch heel whenever possible. Not only is the heel becoming required in the workplace in order achieve a professional look, but it will also add even more length to your body. Worn under slacks, jeans, or with a skirt, heels will ultimately make your legs appear longer and more toned. Also, the added length will take away from the appearance of heavy thighs.

Takeaways
  • .....make sure that you are purchasing pants with the right waistline.
  • ....look for longer shirts that will fall just below your hip line.
  • Wear simple colors and cuts on the bottom, while having a little more fun with the top.......
