Do you have a fireplace you cannot use for any reason? here is a quick, easy and inexpensive solution for you. I figured this out when I rented a small house with a crack in the chimney rendering it useless. It is so easy to do and inexpensive. I was impressed at how well it looked when lit. I have not seen this idea anywhere. I am not sure why since it is so cost effective and easy to do.

First, get a large piece of heavy, dry and clean cardboard and cut it to fit the three sides inside of your fireplace. Make sure the bottom of your fireplace is clean and free of any debris. Your flume should be closed to avoid any drafts. You can use three smaller pieces of cardboard if you need to. Make sure it fits snug and is heavy enough to stand upright. Flimsy is definitely no good. Make sure there are not any folding parts on your cardboard.

Secondly, buy enough aluminum foil to cover all of the cardboard. Heavy-duty foil works the best. This is the most important step; so take your time with it. You need to make sure the foil is put on very neatly. You do not want any creases. Make sure it is smooth all the way around and that there is enough folded onto the back to keep it securely in place. The foil will reflect the light so please do this step correctly to get the right effect.

Lastly, use various size candles. The more you use the better refection you will get off the aluminum foil. The amount of candles depends on the size of your fireplace. I recommend using unscented candles unless you keep the scented to candles limited to one scent, otherwise the smell can get overpowering. I also recommend the candles be all the same color I have found that light color looks the best. Make a semi circle with the largest candles, with the opening facing front. Place the candles about4-6 inches apart from each other, then fill in the semi circle with various smaller candles placed about the same 4-6 inches apart. Mix up the sizes of the inner candles for a better effect. Use plenty of candles. After you arrange them the way you want, light them. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful glow. You will be surprised at how nice this turns out.
