Oprah Winfrey has made great strides for children, women, and people of all kinds. Her charities help so many people. Here you will see some of the outstanding work she has done and the blessings she continues to receive because of it. There are so many that you will not see them all listed and discussed here. Thank you so much Oprah. We love you.

Before you see the charities, here is a poem I wrote to make us see how great she really is:

If You Were in Oprah's Shoes
If you were in Oprah's shoes would you fill them well?
Could you make all of our hearts swell?

Would you use the riches for good deeds
Or satisfy your own needs?

Would Africa receive your aid and education?
Would you care about this nation?

If you were in Oprah's shoes how many lives would you save?
Would you even be close to being as brave?

Would you respect people all ages and races?
Or would you wish they had their own spaces?

So many lives to be touched and healed every day.
Would you help or turn them away?

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy - This is a school specifically for girls in Africa. Oprah created this academy as a safe place to educate and inspire the young women of Africa. The Academy had to also honor their heritage. She succeeded in a big way. Many stars were also inspired and donated to this charity. They showed up to the grand opening. Among the star lineup were Sidney Poitier, Mariah Carey, and Nelson Mandela. There were also many other stars. This isn't the only school Oprah has built or supported. Oprah does this all over the world.

Alternatives For Girls - This organization helps girls ages 16-20 who are homeless or in a crisis. This is a safe haven for women too old for the foster system, but too young for the adult shelters.

American Library Association - The ALA works to encourage reading, enhance learning, and ensure information is accessible to everyone. The goal Oprah contributes towards is to set up a program that will distribute books to troubled teens in detention facilities as well as alternative high schools.

Did You Know?
If you were in Oprah's shoes, would you be just as caring?

Thanks to Oprah, she started a trend helping people on a much larger level, such as providing homes for the Katrina people I know there have always been resources if you have a certain needs but with Oprah I think she has taken it to the next level which has caused many other to follow her lead.

Thanks for the ideas and information. We should all volunteer more. Helping people and making a difference is part of what makes life worth living. you get back more than you could ever give.

I never watched Oprah prior to this year beacuase I've spent the shows 9 a.m. time show im school my whole life. I have liked most of what I've seen though and since I am big into volunteering and charity work I respect that she makes it a priority. Nice article.
