Decorating with dollar store decor does not have to be a dirty little secret anymore. Martha Stewart will not be sending the decorator police to your home in the near future. In fact, many smart decorators already know that cutting corners with some lower priced decorating items can be very helpful in sprucing up a room. Why pay top dollar for the real thing, when the local dollar store has similar home decorating items that will fool even your closest friends.

1. Candles

Candles can be added to any room to give it a feeling of comfort or elegance. Long tapered candles can be set in nicer holders to create a visual display, while jar candles can add scent to a bathroom or living room. Votives placed anywhere in groups can create a romantic feeling in a home. Yankee Candles may have the most appealing scents, but mixing in a few fillers from the dollar store can be a nice addition to any room in the house.

2. Picture This

Photo displays can add a personal touch to any home. Some people prefer wall collages, while other make their homes look welcoming by setting groups of framed photos on fireplace mantels, small tables, or in the home office. Dollar stores often have a variety of photo frames in different designs and sizes. For a few dollars, those favorite photos can become framed treasures in your home.

3. Baskets

I love dollar stores. I've scored many great finds there. It's always my last destination at Christmas for stocking stuffers.

Cool, I never go to the dollar store but that will change after I found these neat circle mirrors for a buck a piece, I saw exactly the same ones used on a wall display at IKEA. I got it done for $5 instead of $30. Sweet! Nice article

I love baskets! Decorative and functional, too, and plain baskets are so easy to dress up with a few silk flowers or ribbon. I'm a big fan of the plastic storage bins, too. Both are a great way to keep clutter contained.
