The most important investment you will ever make is buying your home. Yes, this is even more important than buying your car. It is easier to trade a car. You won't be keeping a car as long and most importantly, you won't be living in your car (we hope).

Your home is also a big part of your asset analysis. For these reasons and more, it is important that when you buy your home, you make the right decision. But this isn't always easy. There are a lot of things you need to think about when you buy a home and if this is the first time you have ever bought one, it is even harder.

Yet, it isn't impossible to find a good home, at a good price, that you will be proud to call your own. You just need to use your mind, gather all the information you can, look at all the pros and cons of buying each home. Then you will be making a smart decision. Here are a few more ideas to keep in mind as you are house shopping and before you actually sign those loan papers for that dream house.

1. Location, location, location. We all have heard how important this aspect is. When people are talking about location, they are talking about the location from the house to your work and to other areas you must go to on a daily basis, the actual location of the home, the distant surroundings of the home such as parks, schools, stores, etc and the basic neighborhood of the home. Yes, all of these things are important. They can add to the value of your home or take away from its value.

2. Will the house grow with your family? Do you plan on expanding on your family, having more children? Will the house fit your needs then? Keep in mind, that you will generally be taking out a 30 year mortgage loan on this home? Will it fit your family in thirty years from now?

3. How much work does the house need? What kind of repairs can you do yourself? Do you have the extra time and money to fix the house up properly? Is it livable now? Can you live in the home and do the repairs while living there?

Takeaways
  • Location is very important.
  • Will the house be big enough for your growng family?
  • How much work does the house need? Can you afford it? Can you do some of the repairs yourself?

Great article! I disagree with all those online sources, you should never feel like you have to decide within a week of looking!
