Winning on American Idol doesn't necessarily mean winning the coveted title. If you make it in the final 12, or runner-up, your future can be paved with gold. Do you know why there are people who can't sing on American Idol? It's mere entertainment for television. Some people are let through to give us all a good laugh. Why do some people who obviously "can" sing are let go by the Idol judges? It's because they do not sound commercial enough. Maybe they sound too Broadway musical, or just plain chose the wrong song. I still can't believe how many contestants still do that! Some really good singers were let go season 6 because of song choices. The Best Advice to give all those who want to give A. I. a try, is to do your best each week. If you don't make the final 12, make sure that you are remembered.

Don't Take Your Friends, Family or Your Bosses Word For It
Go to a licensed professional. Someone who teaches in a high school, college or university. There were idols seasons past, where somebody said they "were" a teacher, or taught by someone who was a teacher, and brought them along. These people did not look like a legitimate teacher. Most likely they were someone who taught at their local community arts center, or just placed an ad in the paper announcing they were a vocal teacher. Another way to find out, if you really can sing, is to join a "real" choral group. Not a church group. I have been and heard many church choirs, and they let anybody in. These people go on to believe that they have a good voice, and they don't. Again, join choral groups in school. Look for auditions in your local paper. The Choral/music director will let you know if you can sing, and help you to learn to keep perfect pitch. Open Mike nights in local clubs are good to test the water, too. The applause from these people will let you know if you have talent or not. Pay close attention to the expressions on the faces of the people in the audience as you sing. A real indication.
