Actor, and former Senator, Fred Thompson has stated that he is considering throwing his name into the 2008 Presidential race. This would add more Hollywood clout to next year's election.

Thompson is known by most people as Arthur Branch, the district attorney on NBC's, "Law & Order." He is also remembered for memorable roles in many movies such as, "In the Line of Fire," "The Hunt for Red October," and "Fat Man and Little Boy."

Many people are not aware of his political history. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 1969-1972. During this time, he made many high lever political connections. Thompson ended up becoming a co-chief counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee during the investigation of the Watergate scandal.

He is credited with connection to one of the most memorable quotes during the hearing. He prompted Senator Howard Baker to ask, "What did the President know, and when did he know it?"

In 1994, Thompson was elected to the United States Senate, and served until 2003 as a Republican. During this time, he spent four years as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs.

Thompson's name was thrown around as a possible candidate for the 2000 election. At the time, he was not interested in seeking a Presidential bid.

If Thompson were to run for President, he will be running as a Republican. Thompson is a strong supporter of the pro-life movement. He has been quoted as stating that the Supreme Court should overturn Roe V. Wade.

While opposing gay marriage, he believes that it should be a state issue, not a federal one. While supporting the death penalty, he believes that the federal government should not get involved.

One area where he may receive some heat is his stance on the War in Iraq. Thompson believes that many mistakes were made in the fighting of the War. He believes that the United States should do whatever it needs to do to change the War in our favor. He supports Bush's idea to add more troops in the Middle East.
