Your maid of honor is more than just the person who stands next to you and acts as a witness to your marriage. She should also be someone who is very special to you. A best friend or a beloved sister. So, on your big day, it is a nice gesture to let her know how much you appreciate her by helping her stand out a little bit. You do not have to do anything big or fancy. A small, simple gesture of distinction will let her, and everyone else who attends the wedding, know that she really is to be "honored."

One of the easiest ways that you can help your maid of honor stand out is to give her a different color dress from the other bridesmaids. Many brides choose two different wedding colors. Since the colors should complement, the effect shouldn't be jarring. If your colors are pink and purple, put your other attendants in pink and have your maid of honor wear purple. This will help her stand out, and identify her as your special friend and helper.

Instead of giving all of your bridesmaids a bouquet, have them hold a single flower. Then provide your maid of honor with a bouquet. Obviously, the bouquet should not rival yours, but a small and simple maid of honor bouquet is a nice gesture. This is especially appropriate if your attendants are wearing dresses of all different colors for a color run.

Crown her with a tiara. This, of course, only works if the bride is wearing a tiara as well. Your tiara should obviously reflect your status as queen of the wedding day, but your maid of honor is a princess, with whom you share a special bond. A tiara can show that.

Setting your maid of honor apart does not have to be as obvious as the above ways. You can give her a special pin or a brooch. These are tasteful and can be very elegant accessories. Your maid of honor can wear it on the breast of her dress. This serves two purposes: it sets her apart and it can act as the special gift you give her for being your special friend. The same idea can be carried through with a bracelet or necklace, or with a small ring.
