I never really knew what Ann Coulter's deal was. I figured maybe she was like the "Bill Maher" of conservative - you know, like the political comedian who makes jokes while bringing to light the "important" issues. But then someone told me that she's not a comedian, but a journalist, a "pundit" if you will, and that deep down she's just pretty bats-in-the-belfry crazy. So I investigated. I read her books, I perused her blog, I watched all of her horrible interviews on YouTube, mostly which consist of her on FOX News making fun of someone she thinks is weak, just like a bully in a schoolyard. And the truth is there: she is nuts. Allow me to elaborate.

Ann says that because both creationism and evolution are improvable and scientifically untestable theories, they should either both be taught in schools or neither should. Then she goes on to say that the reason democrats want only evolution to be taught in schools is because they are trying to create a generation of godless and soulless individuals.

The truth? Creationism (for those who don't know) is the religious theory - straight from the Bible - that God created man. Evolution is a scientific theory, originated (somewhat) by Charles Darwin, which states that human beings evolve over time from one common ancestor. Anthropologically speaking, the answer to the age-old question, "If we're evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys?" is that we don't evolve from monkeys. Human beings and primates both evolve from one common ancestor. Evolution explains things like animal adaptation, natural selection, gene mutation, etc., all theories and processes that have scientific explanations. To lump evolution and creationism together and call them both untestable or improvable is a huge erroneous leap. Not to mention the separation of church and state laws. Churchgoers wouldn't want to arrive at the pulpit in their Sunday best only to have to listen to their fourth-grade teacher explain evolution. Science is for academic establishments, and creationism is for religious establishments. It makes sense, at least to me...and other sane people.

Did You Know?
Ann Coulter was just recently criticized for using a gay slur in a joke about democratic presidential candidate John Edwards. Although her comment was meant to be a joke, a lot of people were offended.

Ever since I stumbled upon your articles, I've been enthralled, to say the least. Now yes, I do share your point-of-view on a lot of things, it seems. I can't stand Ann Coulter, and the more I hear her talk, the more I'm convinced she's lost it. I do think that the reason we have such pundits flourishing is that the public at large are ignorant of the facts, or have a tainted impression of them. Your article is refreshing, well thought out, and entertaining to read.
