The Doris Day Show - Season Four

Doris Day Show Season Four Released February 27th, 2007

Que sera, sera? Not this season, as Today's World associate editor Doris Martin (Doris Day) sticks her nose in plenty of places it isn't welcomed. But things end up roses as always for America's sweetheart in this fourth season of the television sitcom focusing on
a single mom making a successful go of a professional career.

The foil to Day's constant optimism is her boss, Cyril Bennett (John Dehner), whose bluster and faux bravado fail to mask his insecurities, cowardice and hypochondria. He often finds himself vaccilating between threatening to fire Doris in order to get her to take on a story, or threatening to fire her because she took on a story.

Bennett's hypochondria is actually to thank for the introduction of Doris's new romantic interest this season, when he orders a house call from Dr. Peter Lawrence (Peter Lawford). It's love at first sight for both Doris and the good doctor -- until Cy gets the bill, and assigns Doris to investigate medical billing practices, starting with Dr. Lawrence's own! Love may conquer all, but it's definitely got its work cut out for it this time!

Highlights of the season include a murder mystery involving too many suspect Santa Clauses (with a delightfully over-the-top villainous performance by Charles Nelson Reilly), which features a fourth-wall breaking moment when Doris and Cy watch Doris Day on television. Later, Doris's story on a prominent family's ancestor threatens to bankrupt Today's World when the coverage includes the fact that he was hanged as a horse thief. It seems the family in question also owns the magazine's largest advertising account, and they plan to pull it if Bennett doesn't fire Doris -- something Bennett's had plenty of practice at.

Among the many guest stars this season, viewers will spot Gilligan's Island's Alan Hale, Hogans Heroes' Bob Crane and Werner Klemperer, and that man of a thousand faces, perennial favorite Bernie Kopell.
