Anime and Sci-Fi Convention Going for Beginners

Anime conventions, or even Sci-Fi conventions, can be exciting things to go to: Seeing your favorite character personified (even if sometimes it isn't done well), panels with voice actors, watching strange anime on-preview, game rooms, contests - there's a lot to take in. But the conventions also hold a few risks, such as stolen property and heat stroke, if not handled correctly.

Get Plenty of Water
I cannot stress this enough - in most cases, you'll be packed in hot rooms with a lot of other people and will just be able to SENSE your body melting. Most conventions will happen in the summer time as well, so there will be no haven away from the heat outside of making sure to stay properly hydrated. This shouldn't be too big of a task, as in most convention lobbies there should be some sort of water cooler or drinking fountain to use to your own benefit. Take advantage of the free service and keep yourself from getting heatstroke.

Don't Stay in the Actual Hotel

There are several 18+ age events that go on in conventions at the later hours of the night, so there will be no reason to reserve a room in the actual building it will take place in - while they'll offer a 'group discount', hotels across the way will also have rooms open for a cheaper price at time. This is a good way to save money on something that may already be expensive, but also spare you the noise of any late-night convention events.

Try Not to Live Off of Con-Food
Getting out of the hotel and dropping by a gas-station for some water and a sandwich will give you time to come up for fresh air as well as better food than might be offered in the convention building. If you depend on the convention to feed you, you might be paying more to eat, as well as not have the choice to eat what you want, when you want it.
