"No Boundaries" - Its hard to give criticism when the material our finalists had to work with don't come even close to show what kind of artist they would be. Wouldn't it have been better to let the contestants chose
from a batch like the last couple of seasons? Adam Lambert is not necessarily a "lifting the mountains" kind of guy. Which makes me think that this song was plainly written for Danny Gokey.

...too bad loser.

Adam did the best he could with the material especially since he had to read off a teleprompter. (Check out the show at 44 minutes and 41 seconds on your DVRs) This is the kind of song that doesn't lend itself to painting outside the lines. While Lambert got his in his rangy runs, I was bothered by the amount of screaming he threw in. Like my parents, I don't get the need for him to scream in virtually every song. This has been our discussion of Adam all season, and now I'm beginning concerned that I'll get my AARP card in the mail real soon.

Kris Allen

"Ain't No Sunshine" - Its a shame that this was Kris's best performance of the night. It was not an obvious choice for the favorite song he's previously sang. Some people could argue that he should have sung "Heartless" or "She Works Hard For the Money." However, this was a smart choice for two reasons. First, while it was great on the previous show, not everyone remembers it. Secondly, Kris performed it much differently than his first attempt in that he brought more soul and feeling.

Kris's arrangement of the song was brilliant. He started it off really show with just him on the piano showing off his vulnerability. Then the full band and orchestra kicked in and he brought the tension of the song to a climax before bringing it back down to just him and the ivories. It was up there as one of the best performances that he's done on this show. Dude sang his face off and he brought what people love about him. Creative arrangements and emotional outpouring to the performance.

BTW, not to sound like a girl, but how cute is the Allen family? His parents beam with pride and happiness for their son, a sister or sister-in-law with an adorable child that could put Olivia from the Cosby Show to shame, and you've got the wife (who I think could be preggers) who nods with approval after every song. Sometimes families on these shows can seem like its really cheesy, but these folks got to me. Maybe its because I'm getting married in a month and I'm getting all Norman Rockwellian. Anyway, its good stuff.
