Let first start out by saying that I am 25 years old and have been a horror movie "junky" since I can remember. When I was fithteen I took a serious interest in film special effects and begin baying every "how to" book out there. When I turned sixteen I was given the best gift a young "director" could get, my very own video camera, and so began the worst "films" never to be released. Soon after my "film industry career" has fizzled out but my interest in make-up and special effects which remained strong even to this day. I thought to share what little trick and treats I have learned over the years for anyone who is interested. The focus of this "how to" will be on fake blood, the recipes I list for you are my own recipes, which I feel work the best, but feel free to experiment for yourselves

Blood, blood, and more blood:
The hallmark to all horror and most action films is good old fake blood. The following list contains some items that are basic and used in a number of different effects, so you might want to pick up a few extra.

Karo Light Corn Syrup - 16 fl. Oz bottle, about $2.00-$2.50pc and can be found at any grocery store.
McCormick Asst. Food Colors & Egg Dye - one box has 4 colors : red, blue, green, and yellow about $2.00-$4.00.
McCormick Red Food Color - 1.00 once about $2.00-$3.00 , you will be using red more often than any other color, I suggest picking up an extra bottle.
Squeeze Bottles - 12 oz, clear. You can buy these 2 bottles in a pack for around a dollar, I tend to pick up about 3 packs. Most stores like Wal-Mart keep them in the Craft Dept.

Did You Know?
some artists have used food coloring as a means of making pictures
