I will be the first person to admit that I know hardly anything about most celebrities. They just aren't that interesting to me. However I saw something on television a couple days ago that made me chuckle. I can't remember exactly where it was I saw it but there was a discussion on the program I was watching about how the main character couldn't distinguish the difference between Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet.

Yesterday as the wife and I went to the grocery store I saw a magazine with one of the actresses on the cover. It was at this point that I came to a realization of my own. I don't know which one is which, either. Therefore I decided to do some research to finally clear up this confusion once and for all. Thanks to Wikipedia I now feel like I have a grasp on which (K)Cate is which.

Blanchett spells her first name "Cate."

Winslett spells her first name "Kate."

Cate Blanchett was born in Melbourne, Australia.

Kate Winlsett
was born in Reading, Berkshire, England.

Cate Blanchett has an older brother and an younger sister.

Kate Winslett has two sisters. Both of them are actresses.

Cate Blanchett married a playwright and a screenwriter. The young couple has two children and they live in Australia.

Kate Winslett married a director in 1998. They had a daughter in October of 2000. In 2001 the couple divorced. Winslett married a different director in May of 2003 and they have a three-year old son.

Cate Blanchett played Elizabeth I in the movie Elizabeth. She is actually playing the same role in a sequel that is coming out sometime this year.

Kate Winslett played Pricesss Sarah in A Kid in King Arthur's Court.

Kate Winslett is somewhat of a successful singer. She had a number one song in Ireland off the soundtrack for Christmas Carol: The Movie.

Cate Blanchett is not known for singing now and most likely never will be. We the people thank her now for not attempting to sing.

I also used to get Cate B and Kate W confused. And Cate Blanchett may sing in her upcoming role as Bob Dylan, which I recently wrote about for AC.

Cate Blanchett is an extremely talented actress -- but so is Kate Winslet. Everyone's got a few movies under their belt that are labeled as "bill-payers" but I have to disagree with you on Lord of the Rings being a terrible triology!!

A kindred spirit! I have always been abysmal at recognizing celebrities and remembering anything useful about them.

Great article Zac! Two of my favorite actresses. I think the public is more into Kate Winslet because she starred in Titanic, the biggest box office movie of all time. And because she doesn't mind taking her clothes off, like in Titanic, and last year in Little Children. Do not ever recall Cate Blanchett baring all.
