The Nextel i930 is the first Windows Mobile smart phone that supports the Nextel iDEN network and dual-band GSM world roaming. The i930 is appealing because it has PDA functionality; direct connect Walkie-talkie service, and world-phone capabilities. The phone is a sharp device but it has some down falls, it is huge, heavy and has a short battery life. This coupled with lack of Bluetooth connectivity and a high price of $500 bucks might stop some users in their tracks when thinking of buying this phone. I think that a lot of the business world will like the phone even if it does lack some functionality.

Most cell phones seem to be ever shrinking but like most other Nextel's the i930 isn't getting any smaller. At 3.5 by 1.9 by 1.2 inches and a massive 5.9 ounces, this Nextel might be better suited on a belt holster than in your pocket. Being big isn't all bad, the size and weight is there because the i930 is a solid piece of work, and tough and rugged design makes it nearly indestructible. It has a black and silver exterior with a huge exterior screen. The screen display 4,096 colors and shows the time, date, battery life, caller ID, and signal strength. It also has a camera lens and flash above the exterior screen, there isn't a mirror for self-portraits, but the screen doubles as the mirror.

The i930 has a thick and heavy cover that when opened presents you with a beautiful and sharp 2.2 inch, 65,000 color display. You get to choose from seven screen layouts, six color schemes, several wallpaper options, and you also can increase the font size.

I930's keypad is pretty well laid out with plenty of space so you can hit buttons easily. This comes in handy when you want to answer your email messages, since the phone doesn't have the full keyboard. I like the layout of the other buttons pretty simplistic and normal for a Nextel with a center 5 way navigation control and buttons around it for ending and making calls. There are two programmable keys, a back button to step out of menus, and a key that will bring you back to your main screen. All of this makes the i930 easy to use for what ever function you want it for.
