Etsy is an on line shopping site. Though it is a set priced site that does not use the auction style bidding system it shares some similarities with Ebay. These similarities include a buying and selling network consisting of third party users and a feedback rating system. There is however a large difference between Etsy and Ebay, all items on Etsy (with the very narrow exception of craft materials and supplies) must be hand made, assembled, or personalized in some way. Unlike Ebay or other shopping sites you will not find mass made items on Etsy. The site abounds with all manner of hand made goods: clothing, bath and body products, paintings, herbal paper, and soap.

Etsy sellers seem to come from all walks of life. Many are mothers or students using Etsy as a platform to display their talents while earning extra money selling their items from home. Many are also artists selling paintings, sculptures, pottery, and photographs. It appears Etsy's fees, atmosphere, and business tools have attracted sellers of many harder to find crafts such as stained glass, silk screen prints, and herbal paper.

Takeaways
  • All items listed on Etsy must be hand made, assembled, or personalized in some way.
  • Etsy has many artisans that make hard to find crafts such as stained glass and herbal paper
  • Trading between members is encouraged on etsy

I crochet ponchos in two different stitches sized from infant to adult. I provide a hat to go with each poncho. I also have baby blanket sets which include a blanket, sweater, hat and booties. Some sets have bibs and baby shoes to go with the set. I have been going to craft shows in the fall to sell them and take orders. At one of the shows a woman told me about your site and said I should contact you about selling my items on your site. I do all the work myself. Please let me know how I can get my items on your site to sell. Thank you, Marcia

Great article, very accurate and well-written. Thoroughly describes the etsy spirit and the welcoming nature of some of the sellers. I also love that this article gives a true account of etsyian PIF, or Pay It Forward, and how its done! :) Etsy is a great marketplace for handmade goods and I encourage everyone to come check it out!
