The Ultimate Barbecue Sauce Recipe: Impress Your Friends This Summer!
BBQ, barbeque, barbecue... however you choose to spell it the barbecue is the only way to host a house party in the summer months. Barbecues occur all over the world during summer because they effectively combine sunshine, good company and great food like no other event around. They are easy to host as well given all you have to do is throw a few sausages and burgers on the grill. However, you can make far more of your barbecue with the ultimate barbecue sauce recipe.
This BBQ treat has been used in my household for years and gives the food a different and, in my opinion, much better flavour. It really spices up proceedings and is suitable for all the family, including vegetarians. Now it is inevitable that many people will go out and buy commercial barbeque sauces but they taste nowhere near as good as this homemade recipe. It only takes 10 minutes to prepare and will definitely leave your guests wanting more. The full barbecue sauce recipe is below so give your taste buds a treat this summer!
Coop's BBQ Sauce
1 Spanish onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tbsp olive oil
1 red chilli, chopped
300ml tomato ketchup
60ml dark soy sauce
1 tsp tomato puree
50g brown sugar
1 tsp paprika
Pinch cayenne pepper
Pinch black pepper
To make this barbecue sauce, you firstly heat the olive oil in a frying pan along with the pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika and chilli. When the oil is warm, add the onion and garlic and fry them lightly until the onion begins to brown. Add the sugar and continue to stir the mixture for a further minute or so until it begins to caramelise.
Add the soy sauce to the mixture and stir well, coating the onions, before adding the tomato puree and ketchup. Bring it to the boil, stirring continuously, and then simmer for a couple of moments. If the barbecue sauce is a little too tame at this point then feel free to spice it up with a little more cayenne pepper. If it is not sweet enough then add a little honey.
