From time to time when you got company coming on little notice you are running around trying to do many things at once. You got a few minutes at most to freshen up that kitchen and make it presentable. What will you do?
It is not as you can make believe no one is home, this is especially true when kids are home. Seriously, if you got 10 minutes you have time to get that kitchen in shape, even if you have at least one school-aged child underfoot.
Here is what you need, bleach cleanser, sponge, or scrubber pad. You will also need a large box or oven (non-gas), to hide things in and of course a child.
Step one get the coffee pot, and fill it with cold water. Start the coffee machine so that that aroma is in the atmosphere. This is always a welcome sign for any house. Even though I do not drink coffee, I think the aroma makes a house seem more inviting.
Send the child out to grab fresh flowers from the backyard if it is safe. The child or children are out of your way, and are doing something productive. The flowers also make a home more comfortable and add to the aroma. Just make sure the child knows which flowers can be picked.
If you have a dishwasher, put the dishes in there but do not run it. If you do not have a dishwasher place all dirty dishes from the sink in the oven if it is a non-gas stove and has not been used for a few hours. If you have a gas stove, put dirty dishes in a box and store them in the food cupboard. Just keep in mind you put them in the food cupboard and wash them afterwards.
You can pick up papers etc from the table and place them in a bag for temporary storage. Put this bag in a drawer or even in another room until the guests leave. Quickly wash off the tabletop.
Clean the counters and sink with the bleach cleaner, it removes dirty and odors both. Sweep the floor and give it a quick mop job. If you have carpeting in the kitchen, sprinkle on the scented powder and vacuum.
Set a nice vase on the counter so the children can add water. Allow the children to arrange the flowers, this keeps them occupied. Allow the child to place it in the table, which is not cleaned off.
