God of War set the standard for all action games to follow with its highly intuitive combat that welcomed beginners and showered veterans with an endless array of possibilites. It also boasted an epic, consuming adventure that so many games lack in the genre and it was visualized to such a degree that only a handful of games that have been released since have matched its breathtaking scope and attention to detail. Thus, the stage was set for the inevitable sequel, which was plagued by the most vicious of hype machines. Luckily, God of War 2 sticks to its roots as many good sequels do and pushes the epic experience to a titanic level.

The story picks up with Kratos fully embracing his throne as the new god of war and shunning restraint when it comes to dealing with razing cities or staying in line with the other gods. Though you begin the game with Kratos in his godly armor, fully charged blades and a fully upgraded Poseidon's rage, you'll find yourself stripped of this powerful arsenal. But that's not before you have a great deal of fun with them. God of War took no time thrusting you into chaos and the sequel does the same. From the moment you get control you'll be immersed in carnage with droves of mere mortals for you to get back into the groove with. As previews have shown the entire first stage deals with destroying a colossal statue that is attacking Kratos and his Spartan army. Going any further would ruin the story, but it has been made clear that Kratos loses his power and must seek out the sisters of fate in order to exact his revenge.
