"No man is free who is not master of himself." Epictetus
A friend of mine, named Skye had this quote on her blog. If a person desires to master the laws of attraction and to manifest their own reality, I strongly suggest you put these words in your memory bank. To take responsibility for every aspect your life is to achieve total freedom.
Think of the helpless newborn. All of its needs are met by others. The newborn, as far as the things of the material world are concerned, is definitely not free. Over time, knowledge gained from experience and understanding begins to change everything. Once clothed, the child is free to clothe itself. Once fed, the child can now not only feed itself but also discriminate as to its likes and dislikes. As time goes on the child takes on more responsibility for its life and frees itself from parental control.
The freedom/responsibility cycle changes over time. At one point control is given to teachers-at least that used to be the case-but then freedom is regained as an individual hopefully learns to think for him/herself. Careers are chosen and courses of further study are decided upon. But now one enters the so called the real world and controls abound. After years of giving in to the control of various systems, the world of work is entered. Freedom is lost again to most since most fall into the routine of modern life and "work for a living." From jobs, family, government rules and regulations and the incessant barrage of commercials about illnesses and how to live most enter into the Pink Floyd world of "comfortably numb." We think we are responsible people because we care for our families, try to earn a living and conform to the norms of society. We get a job, have a family, go into debt, retire on next to nothing and then die. During our lifetime we push aside things we really want to do, places we want to go, and lives we would like to live because some circumstance or quirk of fate makes us give up and give in.
