While not the most musically adept group you'll ever hear, The Newloves make a decent effort at imitating old-school style garage bands with their upbeat expressions and laid-back approach to shows. Their generally mellow tunes are somewhat interesting, although not always the most original or expertly composed. What is impressive about these four Annandale, Virginia teenagers, however, is the energy they bring to any venue. For members of a generally stoical and even cynical generation, any sign of enthusiasm coming from guys their age is to be admired. I first saw The Newloves perform on February 25, 2007 at Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington, Virginia and decided to interview them after their pleasant (but less than remarkable) performance. Here is what Colin Webb, rhythm guitarist and one of the vocalists for the band had to say:

*So who are you?

"We're The Newloves and we all go to Annandale High [in Falls Church, Virginia]. We're all in the same grade except for our lead guitarist, Dan, who is a year younger. So you have 3 eighteen year olds and 1 seventeen yr old. I'm Colin Webb and I play rhythm guitar and sing. Adam Wirdzek plays bass and sings. Dan Wirdzek plays lead guitar and sings. And Drew Wildes plays drums. 3 W's, funny stuff."

*What can you tell me about your instruments? (ie, Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now---was it cost or was it a style/model/sound/brand/color, etc. preference?)

"As far as instrumentation goes, we've never sworn by any particular company or brand of equipment. Pearl, PRS, Epiphone, and Fender. Those are the companies that make up our instruments. You see, usually the money we make goes for other things. A new guitar or a new floor tom doesn't usually sound like a good investment."

*When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?
