As if we had not heard enough from the 15-minute plus TV star Richard Hatch, he is again in the news, spreading his two-cents-worth. According to Hatch, prison is, "Horrendous!"

Richard Hatch, who was made famous by winning a million dollars on the TV reality series Survivor, was incarcerated in a minimum security facility in Morgantown, WV after failing to pay the proper taxes on his winnings. He was sentenced to 51 months in prison and claims that even though the facility has no fence and boasts beautiful countryside views, he is definitely no spending time at a countryside resort as some feel he is. "Obviously, this is better than county lock-up," Hatch told People Magazine in a March 26th interview, but, "this is prison and it's horrendous because I'm an innocent man in jail."

After being known as the man who refused to wear clothes during a family TV show, Hatch seems to be grasping at straws to reclaim an image other than the "naked, fat guy."

Hatches' claim that this "country club" of prison is horrendous seems to fall on deaf ears after he spent six months in the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth, Mass. It was here, Hatch spent six months in the same room with 52 other offenders. Amidst the lawbreakers were child molesters, murderers and rapists. "For six moths I never left that room. There were no doors, no privacy. ," Hatch related about the experience.

Despite attempts to have Hatch retried due to the judge not allowing him to testify, Michael Minns, Hatch's attorney has been unable to convince the courts of foul play in the original case. Originally, Hatch claimed that he thought the producers on Survivor or CBS itself was going to pay the taxes on his winnings due to the fact he saw the producers in question slipping food to their favorite contestants despite this clearly being a breach of contest rules. A CBS Corporation spokesperson has said Hatch's claims have no merit. And since Hatch was not just on trial for avoiding taxes on his prize winning but also monies earned from other legitimate jobs, it seems CBS may be right.

"I don't apologize for anything, "says Hatch, "I didn't do anything wrong."

Prison is horrible, whether you're guilty or not, and whether you have a nice view or not. It's prison. You can't come and go as you please. You can't change the channel. You wear other people's clothes.

Like the million dollars wasn't enough, he couldn't go and pay his taxes. He got the money for almost nothing...and still has to be in the spotlight. I didn't know he was even in jail until I read your article. Thanks. Interesting! :o) 5.

Interesting how some of these reality stars just can't step out of the spotlight. Good article.

Great reporting. I never watch Survivor but I do remember clips of him sitting there naked and it was pretty nasty. I can't believe the news is making such a big deal over him and that he's going to write a novel about his experiences. Hopefully, he'll pay the taxes from his book!
