Frogs are interesting pets, but many of them are not active. They will spend most of their time stationary in one area of their aquarium. Pacman frogs named after the popular game are common as a beginner pet for a frog lover. They are called Pacman frogs because they gobble everything in its path. Legend says once the pacman frog bites, it won't let go to sundown. Of course, that is false, but their bite is normally quick and painful.

They are Ornate Horned Frogs from the tropical rain forests of South America,.Females are larger than males. Males will get up to 7" and females to 9". On average, they live 6 years, but have been known to live 12 years in captivity. Pacman frogs are a few different colors. They can be blue / aqua and beige to a common green.

Pacman frogs are a great pet for anyone over the age of 13.They are a common frog found in many pet stores. Like most frogs, they are not active. Also, they are nocturnal, so they will sleep during the day. Additionally, they sleep with their eyes open.

They should not be handled as they stress easily. Human hands have oils which affect the sensitive skin of the Pacman frog.

Pacman frogs grow quickly. They will reach 6 inches in five months. Believe it or not, they are not good swimmers. They are mainly terrestial, but should have a shallow bowl of water. They will spend a lot of time in the bowl. If the water is too deep, the Pac Man frog may drown. The water needs to be cleaned daily.

Most of the time in the pet store, they are kept in small containers. They should be kept in a 10 gallon aquarium with a lid, even though they are not good jumpers.

Their cage should have a fluorescent light for 9-12 hours daily. Incandescent lights have a tendency to dry out their skin. The tempature should be 72 -82. Their aquarium should be misted regularly for a high humidty. Pac Man likes to hide especially in moss. During the year, they may go into a partial hibernation.
